Lockyer Valley Growth Management Strategy: Planning for a Sustainable Future to 2046

Project Overview

Lockyer Valley Regional Council is working towards delivering a comprehensive Growth Management Strategy (GMS) that will guide and manage growth across the region through to 2046. This long-term strategy will ensure the Lockyer Valley remains a desirable place to live, work, and play, preserving its unique character while embracing future opportunities.

The GMS will provide a practical, flexible, and wide-ranging policy framework that:

  • strengthens housing choice and supports economic growth
  • aligns land use and infrastructure planning with community values
  • responds to key challenges and emerging opportunities
  • guides where, when, and how growth should occur
  • supports timely delivery of infrastructure and essential services
  • informs updates to the planning scheme and future decision-making.

Importantly, the strategy is designed to shape development in ways that:

  • protect the Lockyer Valley’s natural, agricultural, social, and cultural integrity
  • avoid land use conflicts and promotes compatible development
  • protect liveability, landscape values, and scenic amenity
  • safeguard productive farmland and the natural environment
  • foster a strong, resilient, and sustainable future for generations to come.

Council is currently gathering essential data and identifying knowledge gaps to inform the GMS. Community input will be a vital part of this process, and Council will actively seek feedback and insights from residents throughout the project to ensure the strategy reflects local needs and aspirations.
