Lockyer Valley Growth Management Strategy: Planning for a Sustainable Future to 2046

Frequently Asked Questions

A Growth Management Strategy (the Strategy) is a long-term plan for how the Lockyer Valley may grow over time. The Strategy will help Council decide on:

  • the best locations for new dwellings, jobs, and community services
  • how to retain what we love about our towns, villages and natural landscapes
  • how to retain what makes the Lockyer Valley special.

Population and employment are growing. The Strategy helps ensure growth is:

  • wellplanned
  • affordable
  • safe from hazards (like floods or bushfires)
  • supported by infrastructure (roads, water, schools)
  • balanced with the environment.

The Strategy helps shape:

  • the types of housing available
  • how easy it is to travel to work or school
  • where new parks, community centres, and shops be located
  • how your neighbourhood looks and feels
  • protection of farmland, local character, and natural areas.

Not always. The Strategy is intended to guide where development should and should not happen. Some areas may change more, while others will stay mostly the same.

Most growth management plans look at 20 or more years into the future, but they are reviewed regularly as communities, technology, and population needs change.

Community ideas help shape:

  • local character
  • where growth should be located
  • what needs improvement
  • what to protect.

Councils use surveys, workshops, online feedback, and meetings to gather community views.

You can:
