The Lockyer Valley region is ideally situated in South East Queensland, being less than a one hour's drive from inner city Brisbane. It straddles the Warrego Highway and covers an area of approximately 2,200 sq kms. The population is growing quickly and there are currently around 40,000 residents. Projections by the Department of Infrastructure and Planning show that the Lockyer Valley region's population is expected to grow to 57,443 by 2031 or by an average of 2.4% per annum.
Managing this projected growth while maintaining the region's high value agricultural land, beautiful scenery and relaxed family-oriented lifestyle is a high priority for Council. To ensure that growth strategies reflect the values and aspirations of the wider community Council is committed to meaningful engagement with community members.
