Lockyer Valley Regional Council has invested in the region’s road network by resealing a host of local roads.

Council’s Infrastructure Portfolio Councillor Michael Hagan said the bitumen reseal and asphalt program covered dozens of streets across the region, with work now officially complete.

“Council crews and contractors began work on the bitumen reseal and asphalt resurfacing program in November last year and have completed works on a total of 78 roads consisting of almost 63 kilometres.

“These roads have reached the stage of intervention and have undergone works to improve rideability and safety for motorist and cyclists and extend the road’s useful life.

“However, for some of Council’s roads, they were simply too far gone, and our crews have invested in not just doing the reseal but completing a total pavement rehab and bitumen reseal preparation works.

“These roads included Paradise Road, Mt Sylvia, a section of Zabel Road, Lockrose, Hawleys Road, Lake Clarendon and Jew Road, Crowley Vale, Tenthill Creek Road, Gatton – just to name a few.

“Overall, this project was a highlight of our 2025/26 Budget, with a substantial capital investment, and it’s great to see it come to fruition.

“We all know how important our roads are – and that is why we continue to make this ongoing investment in not only this project, but our entire road network.

“Works comprised of reseal, removing and replacing unsuitable material, surface correction, pothole repairs and kerb and channel replacement.

“The old saying really does ring true – the better you look after something, the longer it will last. Road resealing means they achieve their maximum lifespan, saving money in the long run,” Cr Hagan said.

Some of the Completed roads include:

    • Forest Hill - Gill Street; William Street, Dodt Road, Brimblecombe Street.
    • Grantham - Armstrong Road, Railway Street, Citrus Street.
    • Laidley - Coates Street, Drayton Street, John Street North, Moonlight Parade, Alexander Street, Douglas McInnes Drive, Old Mulgowie Road Street, Lester Lane West, Miles Road, Whitehouse Road, Range Crescent, Orton Street, Crown Street, Breuer Street, South Street, Macaranga Court, Paroz Road
    • Gatton - Beaven Street, Byrne Street, Clarkes Lane, Cochrane Street, Crowley Lane, Dennis Minson Drive, Dionysius Street, Edwards Road, Falconer Street, Fitzgerald Street, Gassman Street, Logan Street, McKay Street, McNeil Street, Murry Street, Spencer Street, Tew Court, Wilson Lane, Wilson Street, Woodlands Road, Lowe Street, Byrne Street.
    • Withcott – O'Neil’s Road, Skyline Drive, Twilight Court, Karbul Crescent, Glencoe Road, Tabletop Road, Berghofer Drive, Biggs Road, Wandin Road, Meadows Road
    • Helidon – Bowen Street, Lawler’s Road, Trost Street, Plant Street, Piccadilly Lane, McGovern Park Access Road

Cr Hagan said the works were part of Council’s ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving vital local road infrastructure.

“A bitumen reseal involves spraying a thin layer of bitumen over an existing road surface, followed by a layer of stone aggregate that is rolled in to create a durable, skid-resistant finish.

“This process protects the underlying pavement from weather damage and everyday wear and tear.

“These were some of our region’s busiest streets, so to have their lifespans extended is the news we want to give our community,” Cr Hagan said.

The program is jointly funded by Council and the Australian Government through the Roads to Recovery Program.
