Draft Waste Reduction & Recycling Plan 2019-2022

Project Overview

The community was invited to review and provide submissions to Lockyer Valley Regional Council’s draft Waste Reduction and Recycling Plan 2019-2022 (WRRP) between Wednesday 6 March and Monday 22 April 2019.

It is a statutory obligation for Council to have such a (WRRP) Plan under the provisions of the Waste Reduction and Recycling Act 2011. The draft Plan sets a clear pathway for the management of solid waste in the Lockyer Valley region towards and beyond 2022.

Highlighted below are several of the key areas that Council sought feedback from the community. For more information, please download a copy of the WRRP and the FAQs document.

Council has sought to highlight the key changes which are likely to be of interest or concern with significant sections of the community, however, it is noted that there may be other areas of concern to you in the Plan which we have not highlighted here.

  • Proposed closure of the Helidon waste facility from 1 July 2019
  • Proposed reduction in operating hours for the waste facilities at: Grantham, Lockrose, Lockyer Waters, Murphys Creek and Withcott from 1 July 2019
  • Proposed construction of a new waste facility at Otto Road, Glenore Grove approximately 2021
  • Proposed closure of Lockrose and Lockyer Waters facilities once the proposed Otto Road facility becomes operational approximately 2021

Following collation and analysis, submissions and a revised WRRP werepresented to the 22 May 2019Council Meeting for adoption.

Update 7 - Council Meeting to adopt WRRP

A report on the public submissions on the Draft Waste Reduction & Recycling Plan 2019-2022 was presented to the Council Meeting held Wednesday 22 May 2019. The report and recommendations are available available on Council's website in the Agenda and Minutes section. Minutes of the meeting will be available on Council's website by close of business Friday 24 May 2019.

  • 9 April 2019 - Submission Review Process

    Council will review all submissions and consider amendments to the Plan. 

  • Open for Submissions: 6 March - 22 April 2019

    Submissions open 6 March 2019 for the Draft Waste Reduction & Recycling Plan 2019-2022 and will close at 5pm Monday 22 April 2019. 

  • 22 April 2019 - Submissions Close

    Submissions must be received by Council no later than 5pm Monday 22 April 2019. 

  • 22 May 2019 - Council Meeting to Adopted WRRP

    Council will review all submissions, update the Waste Reduction & Recycling Plan 2019-2022 and vote to adopt the Plan. 

  • Communicate changes to the community

    Council will provide letters to everyone who lodged a valid submission, provide an overview of changes in the Gatton Star, provide large notices at all waste transfer sites affected by changes in the Plan, and update the Council website with changes.&n

  • 1 July 2019 - Waste Reduction & Recycling Plan 2019-2022 takes effect

    The Waste Reduction & Recycling Plan 2019-2022 will take effect from 1 July 2019.
